QR code maker
Type a link or a short message and I'll print it onto a tag as a QR code, ready as SVG or PNG. It never expires and nothing is tracked.
Printing it
- Print it at least 2 cm wide for close scans, such as a card held in the hand.
- Scanning distance is about 10 times the code width: 20 cm wide reads from about 2 metres.
- Keep the border around the code. It is part of the code, and cropping it stops some phones reading it.
- Scan a test print with two different phones before you print the whole batch.
Questions people ask
Does the QR code expire?
No. The code holds your link or text itself, with no redirect service in between, so it keeps working for as long as the page it points to stays up.
How big should I print it?
Print it at least 2 cm wide for scanning up close, such as on a card in a guest's hand. For anything read from further away, make the code about a tenth of the scanning distance: a sign read from 2 metres needs a code about 20 cm wide.
Can I change the colours?
Yes, as long as the code stays darker than its background. Many phone cameras will not read a light code on a dark background, so the tool will not make one, and it warns you when the contrast drops below 3 to 1.
Should I download the SVG or the PNG?
The SVG is drawn with shapes, so it stays sharp at any size and suits print files. The PNG is a picture made of pixels and works anywhere that accepts a photo.
Is anything tracked or stored online?
No. The code is worked out in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere. Your last text and colours are kept only in this browser so they are there next time.
